Forgotten Crises: Displacement from Sudan to Eastern Chad

Since April 2023, large-scale conflict between rival military factions in Sudan has led to an estimated 14,000 deaths and caused nearly two million people to flee to safety elsewhere. No place has welcomed more refugees from Sudan than neighboring Chad, which was already hosting 400,000 Sudanese displaced from earlier conflicts. Despite the recent influx of people placing a significant strain on Chad’s already limited resources, the country continues to host and support the entry of Sudanese refugees and other asylum seekers. 

In this fact sheet, the Center for Refugee Policy (CRP) examines this “forgotten crisis” and provides an overview of HIAS’ humanitarian response. The fact sheet also offers recommendations to the European Union and member states for further action.
