Melanie Nezer on CNN: "It's On Us" to Welcome Ukrainian Refugees

Refugees don’t have controls over their futures and it is up to us to make sure that they have options and are welcomed, Melanie Nezer, HIAS’ senior vice president for global public affairs, told CNN in an April 3 appearance.

There is the concept in international refugee policy of responsibility sharing, Nezer explained, so while Poland is currently hosting the vast majority of Ukrainian refugees, “it doesn’t mean that the rest of the world should just sit by and let that happen,” Nezer said. “There is a role that the U.S. can play.”

As for the Biden administration’s promise of welcoming 100,000 Ukrainians, Nezer said there have been very few details shared about the plan.
