Since the war in Ukraine began, the Republic of Moldova has become a key refuge for Ukrainians fleeing the conflict. More than 1 million people have crossed into Moldova during this period, with an estimated 120,000 refugees currently residing in the country.

HIAS, alongside local partners, plays a vital role in Moldova’s refugee response, focusing on multiple areas of support. This includes direct assistance, community engagement, psychosocial services, and legal assistance for vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls, ensuring their safety and protection from violence.

Moreover, HIAS strengthens the refugee support system by building the capacities of partners, women-led organizations, and local authorities.

Our Work

At HIAS Moldova, we empower underserved and vulnerable refugees by promoting economic integration, community engagement, and protection, and addressing gender-based violence and mental health. We care deeply about their well-being and provide a compassionate approach to our work.

We work to protect the right of women, girls, and LGBTQ communities to access their full potential and live free from violence by supporting survivors, mitigating risks, and transforming beliefs that perpetuate GBV.

End Gender-Based Violence

HIAS’ community-based mental health programs promote the well-being of individuals, families, and communities affected by crisis and conflict so they can heal and rebuild their lives.

We work to protect the right of women, girls, and LGBTQ communities to access their full potential and live free from violence by supporting survivors, mitigating risks, and transforming beliefs that perpetuate GBV.

End Gender-Based Violence
