HIAS Statement on Synagogue Shooting in San Diego

There are no words to express how saddened and outraged we are by the brutal act of violence in San Diego today during the celebration of the end of Passover, a holiday of liberation and freedom. Our prayers are with the victims, the Chabad of Poway community, our local partner, Jewish Family Service of San Diego, and, yet again, with our country.
HIAS will continue to work with our partners nationwide to welcome those who seek refuge after fleeing xenophobia. As an organization and as a country, our job doesn’t stop with welcoming those seeking safety. We must fight anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred within our borders and around the world.
