HIAS Welcomes Introduction of Bipartisan DREAM Act
Jul 20, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C.—HIAS, the global Jewish nonprofit that protects refugees, applauds introduction of the DREAM Act in the 115th Congress. If passed, this legislation will allow certain eligible undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors to earn lawful permanent residence and eventually U.S. citizenship.
In response to the bill’s introduction in the House and Senate, HIAS Senior Vice President for Public Affairs Melanie Nezer issued the following statement:
“The young men and women who will benefit from this legislation are already contributing to our country in countless ways, facing challenges many of us can only imagine with dignity, determination, and strength. They belong in this country and embody the best of America. We thank Senator Graham, Senator Durbin, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard, and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen for their leadership and urge Congress to enact this legislation.”
