WATCH: These Syrian Refugee Children Will Make You Want to Dance

The sounds of summer may not usually include the tap dancing feet of Syrian refugee children, but now they do-- at least in Toledo, Ohio. With the assistance of HIAS’ affiliate US Together, 36 kids--some as young as 5 and some as old as 17--danced and sang in a downtown church as part of a special summer camp.

It took the vision of volunteers, a Danish dance instructor, and the better part of a year to plan, explained Corine Dehabey, US Together’s Toledo director. “I believe in art and music as a therapy for everyone,” Dehabey said. The children who finished the camp, Dehabey noted, are still singing and dancing on their own.
