HIAS Statement on 2024 Resettlement Landmark

SILVER SPRING, MD — This year, for the first time since 1995, there were more than 100,000 refugees resettled through the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). This is a momentous achievement, accomplished through a partnership between the State Department and 10 resettlement agencies, including HIAS.

As the new fiscal year begins, HIAS remains committed to working alongside government partners, local host communities, and our partner organizations to support refugee resettlement and integration. The Biden administration announced its Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions (PD), at 125,000 for Fiscal Year 2025.

“The U.S. Refugee Program is a shining example of this country at its best,” said Mark Hetfield, HIAS President. “In a challenging time with conflicts raging around the world, our country continues to stand for a proud legacy of welcome for those who have fled extreme violence and persecution.”

We commend the ongoing commitment of the Biden administration to welcoming refugees through the U.S. Refugee Admissions program and encourage the administration to ensure that there are sufficient resources and investments in domestic infrastructure to support and expand the program into the future.
