HIAS Announces Second Year of Refugee AmeriCorps Partnership
10 AmeriCorps Members will serve at HIAS national affiliates as part of collaboration between the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Office of Refugee Resettlement
NEW YORK—HIAS, the global Jewish refugee resettlement agency, today announced approval and funding for a second year of the Refugee AmeriCorps program. As part of this partnership between the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Office of Refugee Resettlement, HIAS will once again place 10 Refugee AmeriCorps Members at affiliates across the country. The focus of the program is to recruit, train and manage new volunteers who can provide services to vulnerable refugees. The individuals who will be served through this program require intensive case management and supplemental orientations in order to achieve self-sufficiency.
“The Refugee AmeriCorps program has increased the capacity of HIAS to better serve new Americans who were rescued by the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program,” said Mark Hetfield, President and CEO of HIAS. “Whether it’s through training in financial literacy or coaching in job skills development, the Refugee AmeriCorps Members will have a direct impact in empowering these new Americans, who have suffered through turmoil and persecution, to thrive and contribute to their new communities."
The 2016 Refugee AmeriCorps Members will serve at the following affiliates:
- Jewish Family Service (JFS) of San Diego, California
- Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) in Clearwater, Florida
- Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Western MA in Springfield, Massachusetts
- Jewish Family Service of Buffalo & Erie County (JFS) of Buffalo, New York
- Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency (CRRA) in Charlotte, North Carolina
- US Together (UST) in Columbus, Ohio and a sub-office in Cleveland, Ohio
- HIAS Pennsylvania of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JF&CS) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Kent, Washington.
