At this moment, 60,311 people are being held in immigration detention facilities across the country, many facing abominable conditions. 23 people have died in immigration detention in this fiscal last year alone, after being ripped from their families and communities.
The U.S. government is spending billions of dollars to expand the capacity to arrest and detain immigrants. And while that capacity expands, safe and legal pathways for immigrants and forcibly displaced people to enter and remain in the U.S. are shutting down.
Join us for expert analysis of immigration detention and its role in U.S immigration enforcement policy. Experts from HIAS and our partner organizations will explore how, why, and where the use of immigration detention is expanding, and the use of warehouses to create additional capacity. We will discuss how individuals can take action to prevent the establishment of new immigration detention sites in your community, and draw attention to abuses that take place currently within the facilities.
