Nothing But Joy — a HIAS Text Study for Sukkot

The festival of Sukkot is both considered a “time of rejoicing” and a time when we are reminded of how the structures within which we live are truly fragile. For the week of the holiday, those of us who have homes are instructed to leave them and dwell in fragile, temporary structures. This feels especially resonant in a world where more than 110 million people have been forced to leave their homes.

Our study together will explore the holiday’s twin themes of vulnerability and joy through reading and discussing texts and stories from Jewish tradition and the contemporary refugee experience. This Sukkot, join Rabbi Megan Doherty, HIAS’ Senior Educator, for a text study and discussion of the themes of the holiday and how they are directly relevant to HIAS’ work with and for refugees and the forcibly displaced.
