HIAS Statement on the Signing of Israeli-Palestinian Ceasefire Deal

SILVER SPRING, MD—HIAS welcomes the signing of the first phase of a ceasefire deal today, and shares in the hope of countless Israelis and Palestinians that it will herald the end of two years of violence, displacement, and suffering.

“We are overwhelmed with relief and hope at the signing of a ceasefire and hostage deal,” said Sivan Carmel, HIAS Israel Country Director. “The long-awaited return of the hostages will allow hearts to begin to mend, and we pray that the suffering of all those affected by this war will at last give way to recovery and renewal. While the challenges ahead will be significant, may this moment open the door to healing for all communities grieving incalculable losses.”

HIAS awaits the return of the hostages to Israel as well as an immediate and massive surge of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza.
