Legal Coffee Talk: Climate Change and Forced Displacement 

As we note World Refugee Day on June 20th, we recognize that our traditional understanding of refugees does not fully encompass the number of people around the world who are forcibly displaced, including those who have lost or fled their homes due to natural disasters brought about by climate change. Without action, these disasters will continue to occur and more people around the world will become “climate change refugees.” How can we broaden our understanding of what refugees are so that we can adequately address the predicament of, and prepare to provide protection and resettlement to people who have or will become displaced because of climate change?

Join HIAS’ Pro Bono & Partnerships team along Naomi Steinberg, HIAS’ Vice President, U.S. Policy & Advocacy, as we discuss the big questions around climate change and forced displacement.
