Some displaced individuals who fear returning to their home country may be ineligible for asylum protection in the U.S. However, there are two alternative forms of protection that an Immigration Judge could grant. These forms of protection would allow the person to safely resettle in the U.S., as long as the person does not have any bars to asylum, and if they are likely to suffer persecution or torture in their country of origin.
