We are shocked by the horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado on members of the Jewish community. Our hearts are with the victims of the attack as they recover in body and spirit.
At HIAS, we know too well what it means to be targeted for who you are, and what you believe. For more than 120 years, we have helped refugees who fled their homes because of persecution based on religion, ethnicity, or political opinion. We know too well what it means to have your sense of safety stripped away.
In a time of political divisions, acts of vengeance can be louder than calls for solidarity. But the world cannot be made whole through violence, only through repair. With courage and conviction, we must oppose violence in all its forms. We must move forward highlighting the humanity and holiness of each and every person, no matter their background.
