HIAS is horrified by the devastating antisemitic attack targeting a Hannukah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community in Australia.
As Jews around the world enter the holiday of Hannukah, we do so with heartbreak and grief for the many people who were killed and injured in yet another act of antisemitic violence. As the Jewish community’s refugee agency, HIAS knows all too well what it means to have your sense of safety stripped away, and to be targeted because of who you are.
May the memories of those killed be a blessing, may each night of Hannukah add some light into the darkness, and may we all someday build and inhabit a safer world.
