An Early Seder Bonds European Jewish Youth Activists
Feb 28, 2020
The European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) and HIAS Europe brought together 25 Jewish youth activists from across Europe on February 17 to learn about today’s refugees and contemporary challenges to the right to international protection. The Jewish students and young leaders came to Brussels as part of an activism seminar, consisting of trainings and meetings with NGOs, European Commission Officials, and Members of the European Parliament. Using the HIAS Haggadah the students made a seder and discussed what young European Jews could have an influence over. They also considered potential ways to get involved in refugee causes, such as serving as mentors to refugee students or facilitating their integration on campus. “We reflected on the responsibility we hold, as young Jews, to bring help and relief to those who need it,” said Elias Dray, an EUJS member.
