Ukraine

Having worked in Ukraine for more than 20 years, HIAS is actively supporting people displaced by the war. HIAS Europe is now assisting displaced people in Ukraine and Moldova, as well as via community integration plans throughout Europe.

HIAS Europe manages humanitarian programming worldwide and supports European Jewish communities, organisations, and activists in their efforts to welcome and integrate refugees. HIAS Europe adds a Jewish voice to European discussions on forced migration and related humanitarian issues.

Through technical and financial support, HIAS Europe empowers European Jewish communities to support refugees overseas and welcome refugees in their own communities. These programmes promote inclusion and social cohesion, often through interfaith collaboration and community sponsorship schemes.

HIAS Europe advocates for the EU to pursue policies that promote welcome, safety, and opportunity for people fleeing violence and persecution around the globe.

Support HIAS Europe with a donation today.

Created on the initiative of our Philanthropic Friends, the Friends of HIAS Europe Fund aims to support the projects of our association; it is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation. Belgian donations of €40 or more per year to the Foundation are eligible for a tax reduction of 45% of the amount actually donated (art. 145/33 CIR)

What We Do

We protect refugees and displaced people by offering legal support, preventing and responding to violence against women and girls, looking after children’s rights, providing safe housing, ensuring access to food, and resettling refugees. These approaches are all tailored to local contexts and are designed to strengthen communities to support people forced to flee violence and persecution.

Domestic Violence Survivors Find Support to Start Anew

Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its regional impact, vulnerable populations—especially women, girls, and displaced people—face heightened risks of trauma and violence.

With the support of the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), HIAS Europe and our local partners are improving access to essential services to support survivors and prevent violence against women and girls.
