Briefing: How Displacement Impacts Women and Girls
Mar 05, 2020
The number of refugees and displaced people around the world today is at the highest level ever recorded, with more than 70 million forced to flee their homes because of conflict, violence or persecution. There is increasing recognition that forced displacements and humanitarian emergencies have a disproportionate and devastating effect on women and girls.
During this HIAS briefing, Rebecca Kirzner, senior director of grassroots campaigns, and Heidi Lehmann, senior director of gender and gender-based violence programming, discuss the urgent needs of women and girls, how the world is falling short of meeting them and also share highlights of HIAS’ rapidly expanding work in 16 countries to protect women and girls forced to flee their homes.
