Ways to Act Now

Tell USCIS: Don't strip asylum seekers of their right to be heard

USCIS has issued a new rule that lets immigration officers refer asylum seekers straight into deportation proceedings — without ever giving them an interview.

This rule is already in effect. But for a limited time it’s open for public comment, and every comment becomes part of the official record that matters for future legal challenges and oversight.

Submit a comment to USCIS explaining how this rule will harm asylum seekers before the comment period closes on September 28, 2026.

Tell Congress: Hold ICE and CBP Accountable NOW

Since January 2025, at least 52 people have died in ICE custody, and 10 people have been fatally shot by federal immigration officials (including ICE agents) in enforcement-related operations and street encounters.

Congress must exercise their oversight authority, stop writing blank checks to ICE and CBP, and investigate the lives lost.

Send a message to your congressional representatives to hold ICE and CBP accountable NOW.

Tell Congress: Protect Humanitarian Aid

Within days of coming into office, the Trump administration slashed humanitarian aid, leaving millions of people around the world without life-saving assistance.

Your members of Congress need to hear from constituents like you who believe the U.S. should continue to stand with refugees and displaced people worldwide.

Send a message to your congressional representative to support robust humanitarian aid funding.

Sign the Pledge: “I Stand with Refugees and Immigrants”

The Trump administration continues to attack refugees and immigrants. As we are deep into its second term, the challenges are greater than ever, but we persist.

HIAS will always stand up to this onslaught of hatred — fighting the same fight for refugees and immigrants that we have championed for well over a century.

Add your name to the pledge, reaffirming your commitment to protecting all who seek safety.
