HIAS Congratulates Amy E. Pope on Election as IOM Director General

SILVER SPRING, Md. — HIAS congratulates Amy E. Pope on her election as Director General of the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM), after member states cast their ballots in the race between the incumbent IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino and Pope, who has served as the IOM’s Deputy Director General for Management and Reform since 2021.

“Amy Pope is a true expert and leader when it comes to the complexities of global migration,” said HIAS President and CEO Mark Hetfield. “In this complicated moment, with more than 100 million people displaced worldwide, the role of IOM will only grow more important. That’s why HIAS welcomes someone with Amy’s knowledge and experience to take the mantle during such a challenging time. We know that the IOM, and the international community at large, will be well-served by her deep commitment to building partnerships and ensuring that the voices and perspectives of displaced persons and other migrants are heard and prioritized by the organization.”
