HIAS Applauds Reintroduction of Afghan Adjustment Act

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Statement of HIAS President and CEO Mark Hetfield on the recent reintroduction of the Afghan Adjustment Act by a bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives as S.2327 and H.R.4627:

“HIAS welcomes the House and Senate’s bipartisan reintroduction of the Afghan Adjustment Act — must-pass legislation that keeps America’s promise to those who stood with us during the U.S.’ 20-year mission in Afghanistan. This legislation pulls the thousands of Afghans evacuated nearly two years ago upon the fall of Kabul out of legal limbo and on a pathway to permanent legal status, subject to robust security vetting. We applaud Congressional leaders in their continued yet unfinished commitment to those Afghan allies who are our newest American neighbors. As a country, we need to let them get on with their lives as contributors to the U.S. communities in which they now live.”
