Climate Change and Forced Displacement

Feb 5, 2023
12pm ET / 9am PT

As severe weather caused by climate change affects the food security, livelihoods, and safety of communities around the world, hundreds of millions of people will be forced to choose between flight or famine. This Refugee Shabbat, join HIAS for a discussion among experts in policy, emergency response, and program implementation to learn how climate change affects every level of our work.

This program will discuss how climate change serves as an underlying cause of forced displacement; how HIAS works around the world in the context of climate change and environmental degradation; and how extreme weather events in Chad — where HIAS serves refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan in 13 refugee camps — have impacted our clients and our programs over the past year, and how projects like HIAS’ permagardening program serve as a model of sustainable response to climate change.

This webinar will build on past climate change programming. You can read more and access past recordings here.
