HIAS Welcomes New UN High Commissioner for Refugees

WASHINGTON — On Filippo Grandi's first day as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, HIAS, the global Jewish nonprofit that protects refugees, issued the following statement welcoming to his new post:

“HIAS welcomes Filippo Grandi to the post of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. His appointment comes at a particularly challenging moment, as the greatest refugee crisis since World War II rages on unabated. Given Mr. Grandi’s long-standing commitment to refugees, we are confident that he is up to the challenge. We hope that his experience working throughout both Africa and the Middle East will enable him to exercise the necessary leadership on this incredibly important issue.”
