After working in the private sector for several years, Giovani began his non-profit career in 1999 in emergency response. He later led medium to large finance and program teams in a number of countries across four continents in many different capacities, including country office finance director, regional director, and CFO. Giovani was the head of grants management and compliance of an international organization that focuses on environmental protection in Southeast Asia before returning to the United States in 2022 to join HIAS as Senior Director of Budget and Fiscal Compliance.

Giovani received his diploma in finance and degree in accounting from the Asian Banking Institute and Melbourne University in Australia. He also studied accounting and taxation in Germany and has an MBA from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
